BBG Ceremonies
NMW: New Member Weekend. This convention is designed especially for new members (only new 8th, 9th and 10th graders can attend)! All of NRE’s younger members will learn about the foundation of BBYO in a fun-filled weekend. It’s a great way for girls to have fun and make new friends in the council! NMW is held in the spring.
RC: Regional Convention. This event is traditionally held for three days in the winter. The Council S'ganit and S'gan (boys version) of Northern Region East plan it. There is a competition between chapters with the most spirit for the spirit gavel. Programming typically includes theme programs, Shabbat electives, Midstates, a dance, and an NRE slideshow. This is the biggest convention of the year.
IC: International Convention. A four-day weekend in February. This convention will change locations every year! The purpose of this convention is to conduct International business and elect a new International Executive Board. It is also a great time to catch up with friends from past summer programs and meet BBYOers from all over the world.
DC Council Convention: Council convention is held in the spring and is coordinated by one AZA and one BBG upon election. This convention is like RC, but with only DC council members. Programming includes an incredible theme program, separates (just with girls), and the states of the council as given by the council N’siah, a fun dance, and the election of the DC Council Executive boards for the next year. In addition, certain seniors give council life, a ceremony in which they become lifetime members and dedicate their life in BBYO to several people.
Chapter Convention: Held at the end of spring, seniors from the chapter plan the convention. This weekend is filled with chapter bonding activities, a new board is sometimes elected (elections change dates), and seniors give their lives!
Kickoff Dances: Held at the start of each term, members of the council attend the super fun kickoff dances where we dance all night to our favorite songs!
BBG Spirit Day: This is a daylong program, normally preceded by a chapter sisterhood sleepover the night before. This takes place annually in March, planned by a DC Council BBG. The chapters of the council compete in spirit events such as banner making, cheers, as well as Dancing and Lip-sync routines. BBG Spirit Day promotes chapter unity and sisterhood in DC Council.
International Summer Programs: Summer programs like CLTC, ILTC, Kallah, and more are incredible opportunities over the summer to meet friends from all around the country!
